Wednesday, September 12th 2012
Houston, TX–Panattoni Development Company, Inc. recently completed the sale of six acres in the Beltway 8 Corporate Centre, Houston, to global data center service provider CyrusOne, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cincinnati Bell (NYSE: CBB). As part of the transaction, Panattoni is to oversee construction of a 120,000-square-foot shell building that is expected to increase CyrusOne’s Houston West campus to more than 300,000 square feet.
The expansion makes the site the largest digital energy campus in Houston. CyrusOne has developed a unique engineering capability to accommodate the high-density ecosystem to help facilitate the generation, analysis, and sharing of all the geophysical data required for seismic exploration computing. When completed, the building is going to offer 24 megawatts of power and be used as a colocation data center serving super-major and major oil and gas firms.
“We are bringing our Fortune 1000 customers in Houston a ‘Massively Modular’ facility once achievable only by ‘webscale’ Internet companies, while still maintaining the level of security and resiliency they’ve come to expect,” said Kevin Timmons, chief technology officer, CyrusOne. “Through economy of scale, aggressive sourcing, and the construction efficiencies we can count on partners like Panattoni to deliver, we are able to speedily commission the expansion of our site, which, in turn, enables us to deliver inventory just in time to best match our customer demand.”
CyrusOne offers customers best-in-class performance and reliability for high-density and high-availability enterprise requirements for colocation solutions. The facilities’ data center power and redundant cooling architectures use advanced components and are designed with N+1 and 2N parallel redundancies, providing 100 percent uptime with service uninterrupted.
Designed by Duane Bradshaw, Yubo Chen, and Cobb Fendley, the building is going to be constructed at 5150 Westway Park Boulevard by Metzger Construction and is scheduled for completion in February 2013. The new building is the third of three that Panattoni has completed during the past three years. The two additional buildings totaling 172,000 square feet of space for CyrusOne are located adjacent to this new project.
“The Panattoni team is very excited to be a part of this development opportunity for CyrusOne,” added Todd King, the firm’s Houston partner. “It fits in nicely with our plans to expand the Houston Panattoni brand and energize our build-to-suit platform. We hope to be announcing additional build-to-suit opportunities in the near future.”
